Why a diamond ring is the epicenter of love proposals

Just imagine the world freezing when a man proposes to you with a single diamond ring and that right there is the most iconic moment for you in the world. But have you ever wondered why it is always a diamond ring? Everyone acquaints a diamond ring with engagement. Even the youngest of children think that and the diamond ring by far is considered mostly for engagement and marriage purposes. But why are they considered to be so special? Let us understand what made it this famous today and also where it stands today.

What you may not know is that diamonds were not used for jewelry purposes and they were found in India long back. They were mainly used for decorating the ornaments or for talismans so that negative energies ward off. And then later, they were believed to be of great help to cure diseases. It was only after a thousand years after they were found that they started using it in jewelry. The first man who proposed his to be wife with a diamond ring was a Duke of Austria and since then, it began with all the upper-class families to propose their to be wives with a diamond ring and since then the tradition has started.

Why Diamonds?

Well, the engagement rings were not as romantic as they were today and in the past, they were mainly a symbol of ownership. The latest designs of gold rings for women were provided to wear in the home and when they would step out, they would wear the diamond rings to let others know they are married to a man. Over time, the tradition has slowly evolved and now it is the epicenter for marriage proposals and love. Have you wondered what might be the reason for people to place the diamond ring to the ring finger? People would place the engagement ring to the ring finger for a reason. The ancient Egyptians believed that a vein in the ring finger was directly connected to the heart of the body which symbolized love. Hence, it was a sealed understanding that engagement rings meant to love and mutual commitment.

The great depression that happened in mid 20th century slowed the diamond rings as engagement rings a bit but right after it was done, they reached their position of being the most favored jewel for ornaments and other rings.

Conclusion

Well, if we talk about today’s scenario of engagement rings, people are spending more money off the perfect diamond ring they want for the proposal. As times change, the people are creating their proposal traditions and embracing the new concepts. They are now in different colors, shapes, and sizes and the perfect alternative for the sparkly white diamond ring for engagement is the different color diamonds that generally have impurities in them. Thus, this is how the diamond rings came to be in use as engagement rings and why they are popular in the jewelry stores.
