Should Digital Nomads Own Cars?

Becoming a digital nomad is a popular way of living for many. It is a way to get out and see the world without having to worry about money as you can work as you go. However, the lifestyle often means that you have few belongings with you. Can a car work out with this type of lifestyle? Let’s take a look!

You are Staying on One Continent for a While

Some people like to jump around between countries or spend their time sunning themselves on islands. While this can be a great choice, others prefer to base themselves on the mainland. If this is you, you might want to get a car. Rather than have to deal with public transport, you can just hop in your car and go somewhere no matter what.

From Asia to the Americas, there are so many countries that you can explore by car. It could become the perfect home base for you as you travel. No matter where you choose to go, you will always know that you have a home to come back to in terms of your car.

You Need One for Work

Digital nomads take on a variety of different creative roles. Some like to try blogging, others make videos, and some try their hands at freelance photography. If you are the latter, you are likely to have quite a few pieces of gear with you. While some freelance photographers manage to build a career with just one camera, a good selection of lenses and filters will allow you to build a varied portfolio. Therefore, a car with room for equipment is going to be a must.

You might also want to journey somewhere that public transport does not go. Photographers like to grab pictures at the wildest and strangest of locations and that often means plunging off the beaten path. A car might be key in helping you get somewhere remote and hard to find.

You Can Always Sell It

Ready to move on once more? No matter how long you think you might want to stay somewhere, the itch to find somewhere new will have you looking up your next destination. Feel like you are tied to one place because of the car? Just sell it!

You have no obligation to stay somewhere just because of a purchase like a car. Instead, you should feel like you are able to move on and find somewhere new to go. Selling the car gives you a chunk of money you can use to secure a new place or you might even buy a new car when you get there, the freedom is yours.

Don’t think that being a digital nomad will prevent you from having a car. No matter where you end up going, a car can have many benefits. It can give you freedom and opportunity beyond what other digital nomads may have. Take advantage of what owning a car as a digital nomad might be able to bring for you now.
