What Tools Do You Need For Basic DIY Jobs?

When it comes to completing DIY jobs around the home, a lot of people head to their old toolbox and hope for the best. While basic DIY jobs do require a small amount of tools (and skill!), there are still some essential items that you should have in reaching distance. Here are some of the most important tools for simple DIY projects, available from trustworthy online stores like ADA Fastfix.

Toolbox

Keep all of your drivers, screws, and fasteners in one easy-to-move toolbox for convenience. The single metal clasp on the big-capacity plastic box is secure. For various fasteners, a detachable tray is handy.

Tape Measure

Keep a tape measure on hand to measure anything from the wall area for a paint project to the thickness of wood at the home center.

Screwdriver Set

Screwdrivers are a great choice for tightening cabinet hardware, installing light switches, and popping open metal paint cans’ lids because of their simplicity.

Hammer

For hanging pictures, pounding together ready-to-assemble furniture, and constructing birdhouses, a claw hammer offers a good balance of weight and flexibility. The curved claw is great for extracting bent nails.

Duct Tape

Duct tape is super sticky and clings to virtually anything. It has a thick, woven backing that is thicker than most rolls but easy to cut to length for fast repairs around the house. Use it to mend shredded tarps, busted buckets, and just about everything else except ducts.

Utility Knife

This tool will be used to open boxes, sharpen pencils, mark mortises, and trim wood. For one with a comfy rubber-covered handle and built-in blade storage, spend a little more up front. Then you’ll be more inclined to insert a new blade rather than forcing an old one, which never goes well!

Set of Pliers

Use them to straighten bent power-cord connections, replace old showerheads, cut wiring, and get a firm grasp on just about anything.

Flashlight

If you don’t have access to regular batteries, a rechargeable worklight that you leave plugged in will last much longer. The LEDs are rated to survive 100,000 hours and give up to 8 hours of illumination per charge.

Adjustable Wrench

A pipe wrench is required to tighten and assemble all sorts of swing sets and appliances, as well as plumbing fixtures. When a trapped nut requires more power, use the longer handle; otherwise, choose the shorter one.

Handsaw

A handsaw is similar to a power saw but cuts on the pull and push strokes rather than using a forward and backward stroke. It is ideal for trimming timber or molding stock since it provides an easy cut.

With these essential tools in mind, you should have everything you need to complete basic DIY jobs to the best of your ability. There’s no need to spend a fortune on these tools, just as long as you purchase them from reputable manufacturers and use them properly. Before you know it, you’ll be an experienced DIY-er!
