Several polls show that there are currently around 30 to 40 million nomads globally. Three million of these nomads are in the United States, spending most of their time lives traveling around each state using their mobile homes – which are most of the time their RVs. These cars have become a haven and witnessed their great nomadic adventures for many nomads.
If you think about it, living a life on the road is an intriguing way of life, and it has become more fascinating and sort of mainstream now that films like Nomadland were released to critical and financial success. The film won Oscars Best Picture and has possibly brought this lifestyle back into people’s interests, especially after being stuck at home for many months during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
But where do you start if you want to be a nomad? Unfortunately, the process is not as straightforward as putting everything you own in your RV and hitting the road. You can’t just leave your life and house behind, especially as you’ve invested in it and did all the hard work processing the real estate investment trust or REIT. Additionally, you must remember that this lifestyle is not for everyone, but if you are serious about embarking on your nomadic trip, you can become more ready for it.
Be A Nomad With These Tips
Traveling like a nomad is an exciting thing, but it has become a romanticized movement that many people tend to ignore the repercussions of suddenly pursuing this lifestyle. It would help if you planned things to live this new life carefully, so here are some tips that you could use:
- Check your savings and overall financial situation
It’s not going to be a big surprise that living in an RV will be cheaper as you can avoid paying for many bills like your utilities, house repairs, mortgage, and monthly rent. But the other things you need to pay for this new lifestyle must be factored into your budget. These things include fuel, camping gear, and RV maintenance. Of course, you would also need to consider your food and possibly staying in a hotel room when the weather becomes too hot or too cold, or if there is some storm that could be dangerous if you’re only in your RV
- Researching is your best friend
Everything should be good if you have a financially stable life if you decide to live in an RV and live like a full-time nomad. Nonetheless, you must still plan every detail of this new life you’re about to live. Of course, Google could be your best friend, and you can use it to find out about the best and cheapest places for nomads to park their mobile homes – most of these places don’t come for free, unfortunately
If you need extra cash to ensure your survival during your adventures, you can also consider selling some things you wouldn’t need. Your health should also be considered, especially if you have any health issues. Talk to your doctor about your plans and whether this is a good idea to go on this adventure, you should also buy enough of your medications to avoid running out.
- Have a plan B
In general, traveling is not cheap, and even if you’re financially stable, you might want to consider getting a source of income while traveling. Besides having enough savings, you should also have a plan B, like jobs you can do online or any locations where you can stay for a few months and get a job, to ensure you will have a steady income.
Becoming a nomad is fun, but having a plan B ensures your trip will mostly be an unforgettable experience without any problems. So, be on the lookout for some remote jobs, which should not be difficult to get as long as you have a laptop, experience, and a reliable internet connection. Many online jobs would allow you to write articles, blog about your travels, teach languages, and transcribe and get a good amount of money. Additionally, it would help if you looked for other jobs such as virtual assistant, bookkeeper, and digital marketer.
Live Like A True Nomad Without Worrying About Anything
A nomadic life would allow you to explore new places and connect with many others living the same life. So, make sure you invest time in planning this kind of life right so you can live it to the fullest without worrying about some avoidable problems.
