Sports are a huge part of modern life for many people in the US. The top sports such as football, basketball, baseball and hockey have hundreds of millions of fans between them. It is not only just watching sports that US supporters like to do now though. With many states legalizing online betting, an increasing number are beginning to use internet sportsbooks to place wagers. The SugarHouse sportsbook in Pennsylvania is a popular example of this in action.
Although it is true to say that sports are big across the whole of the US, some states are home to a more thriving scene than others. It is worth knowing which these are if you like to travel and also enjoy sports. By picking out the right sports-mad state for a break, you can be sure of there being lots of things to do that will interest you.
Which states have the biggest sports scenes to know about?
California
If we are talking about huge sports scenes within US states, the only way to start is by traveling around California. This is home to a really lively scene with as many as 17 pro teams competing in the four major US sports. This includes the Los Angeles Dodgers in baseball, the Los Angeles Lakers in basketball, the San Francisco 49ers in football, and the San Jose Sharks in hockey. Much of the action is centered in and around Los Angeles, so this may be the best place to head to first. As well as taking in a live game at awesome arenas such as the Staples Center or SoFi Stadium, there are also lots of sports bars in Los Angeles and around other California locations to catch the action. If soccer is more your bag, there is also the famous LA Galaxy team to look at while in Los Angeles itself.
Florida
Although the Sunshine State may not come to mind first when thinking about sports, it is one to consider visiting. The added bonus here is that like California, you get decent weather and a laid-back lifestyle to enjoy along with the games. Soccer is something you can now enjoy here with the recent founding of David Beckham’s Inter Miami team, who play at Lockhart Stadium. As with California, the major four sports in the US are well represented in Florida. While in Miami, why not take in a Heat game in the NBA or a Dolphins game in the NFL? Both are sure to provide plenty of thrills and should not cost too much to get in. Other areas around Florida also play home to thriving sports scenes, such as Jacksonville, Tampa Bay and Orlando.
Texas
Any sports fan will not be surprised to see the Lone Star state represented in this list. It is home to some very famous teams and some that are doing well presently. The Dallas Cowboys in the NFL are perhaps the best example of this and had a decent run last season. The other major team to enjoy watching here are the San Antonio Spurs in basketball, who have a proud history in the game. With plenty of venues to catch games at if you do not attend in person and knowledgeable locals to chat to about sports, Texas is a welcoming place to spend time. The food here is also great, so you can be sure of always finding something good to eat while watching the game!
Pennsylvania
This state is a double treat for sports fans – not only are there lots of teams to follow, but you can also engage in online sports betting. This means that you could not only have a trip that you will enjoy but you could also have one that could make you money! The main draw here is the teams that Pennsylvania has in the big four sports. The top teams are undoubtedly the Philadelphia 76ers in basketball, who always attract big crowds, and the state’s two NFL teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles. Hockey and baseball are also on offer and these provide a nice alternative. Major cities in the state, such as Philadelphia, are worth visiting in their own right for the many museums, landmarks and restaurants to discover when there are no games on.
Sports fans well catered for in top states
The above states are some of the best around if you love sports and are thinking of heading off on a break to catch some. Heading out of your normal routine to enjoy sports in a new setting can not only make them more exciting but also give you more chances to engage your passion. While most US states have something to offer in terms of a sports scene, the above are certainly very impressive.
