Chris Richardson of The Aussie Nomad and I recently got cozy with Vegemite. Watch my first snazzy video for the full story.
A special thanks goes to my friend Steve Boland for proving to be a creative, adept cameraman.

@Nomadic Chick – Sure =) We’re living on the road in Europe/UK, but we should be able to find it pretty easily where we’re currently staying in Cornwall (we nearly died of joy when we found it in the supermarket here; last place we found it was a tiny little deli in Rome). Would be happy to send you some, as we know what Vegemite deprivation does to a person (nearly killed us in Tunisia).
If you email me a postal address I’ll gladly hook you up!
@Michael Tyson – Exactly! Which is how I usually eat it. You wouldn’t be a nice mate and send me a jar by chance? :)
Jeannie, thank you for furthering the cause of the great Australian spread. If anyone’s going to try this home however, for the optimal vegemite experience, make sure you spread your margarine on hot toast straight out of the toaster so it melts then the vegemite in a very thin layer. Enjoy!
@Chris – The Aussie Nomad – Yay! Hope I did right by you and Vegemite. :)
I’m ashamed to say its taken me this long to watch your video. In saying that OMG you so rock mate. Love the video and way to show the rest of them how to eat vegemite.
Maybe now we can finally convince everybody that it should be in their cupboard at home.
@GRRRL TRAVELER – Thanks, GRRRL Hearing that from a true professional means a lot. :)
Way to go on your first vid! You and your camera person did an awesome job! Hmmm… vegemite. I heard it in a song in the 80s, never knew what it was and still just have a vague concept. But kudos for you for putting this vblog together! ;-)
@Andi – LOL. 2 years is a fair go. Ouch. :) Does this mean I should be dating an Aussie?
Haha love this video! You’re sooo cute!!! Gotta tell you though darling, I dated an Aussie for 2 years and I could NEVER get myself to like V. Yuck!
@Monica – Awwwh!! Thanks. :) More is coming, no worries. :-D
@Shannon OD – What about Marmite? Hehe.. it’s flattering that you enjoyed the video despite your intense dislike for “V”. :)
@Josh | The Wander Project – Ooh, those are fighting words. Ruined? So extreme. Poor Vegemite, forever the food underdog. :)
@Lily – LOL. That vid was fab! Thanks for finding the link for me. :)
This video is so cute! Love it :-) And I even love it though I hate vegemite…I tried so hard to like it while I was in Australia but no matter how I tried it, it just wasn’t that tasty to me! :-)
This is awesome! I think you should do more video blogs!
My first vegemite experience was in a hostel in Paris… some Aussie kids ruined half a baguette with vegemite from a tube. I suppose it’s an acquired taste!

@Lily – Haha… Oh, but Marmite is ewwww. I’ve tried both, and sorry – the Aussies got it right. I’ll have to google that advert you mentioned.
Hi NC, this is similar to Marmite in the UK. My fave advert is the Girl who has a sneaky piece of toast & marmite late at night, then goes to kiss her date (presumably with tongues) who’s reaction is ‘Yeeeukkk’ horror!
But what I really wanted to say is this … the Health & Safety police noticed with alarm that the TOASTER was very close to the WATER – looked almost like a training in ‘dangerous mistakes in the kitchen’ video! Cant wait to follow your travels!
@Candice – Fake orgasm, fake Vegemite love. All in a day’s work at NC. :)
@Daniel Murdock – Hey, at least you tried
Hehe, you should have your own tv show, I love it. Do more videos!
P.S. I can totally tell you’re lying, you hate it.
My friend from Australia and I went to an Aussie Pie shop here near Seattle, and she made me get a jar. We basically prepared it like you did, but she wouldn’t eat it. She just sat and laughed at my reaction when I did.
Being fascinated with Australia ever since I can remember, I really wanted to like it, but I just couldn’t get used to it :(
Awesome video!
@Gerard Ward – You never did explain why you were crunching numbers instead of ski patrol?? I searched high and low for Vegemite after Brazil, and was annoyed to always find Marmite, which tastes like soy sauce x 20. Ick.
Hey Jeannie! Great to see Vegemite is finally getting some praise for this challenge.
When I lived in Vancouver, I couldn’t find any, which was a real bummer considering how many Aussies head to Van to work on the ski slopes.
The upside – Various types of peanut butter, Reeces Pieces and Timbits.
Mmm…other things…
@Erica – Thanks! I sure do say “yummy yummy” a lot. :) Vegemite has a salty sweetness, which grosses people out. I’m the rare bird who adores it.
I really really really wish I liked it.
A guy at work is dating an Aussie chick and he brought it to work to share. I definitely did not expect… that. lol Everyone talks about it with so much love that I wish my taste buds would accept it.
Cute video!
