Shots of Opening Day – San Fermin

by Jeannie on July 7, 2012

This will be a quick and dirty post on opening day of San Fermin.

The sedate streets of Pamplona turned into chaos starting at noon, when the rocket went off and everyone was sprayed with champagne, water or sangria.  In between that chocolate or mustard powder was thrown in faces or at the blank canvas of a white shirt.

The celebration and drinking began in earnest.  Just a few shots for you.

Quiet and sedate at first.

Town hall before the madness begins.

Official San Fermin poster.

Covered in sangria.

How to best drink sangria.

Shower of water.

Uh oh.

In full colours (Nicole S. came later!).

Guess what I’m drinking?

Really nice shots! I bet you have had such a fun time there, I really like your picture with the splashing water! I have never been to San Fermin, but it must be such a great tuscan city! (By the way, the T-shirts with the I (heart) SF logo are from San Francisco, aren’t they?:))

Of course it’s a fellow Brit wearing the sangria mask – le sigh! Can’t wait to read your round-up of the event and hear what you made of it, Jeannie!

I’m curious about the ration of Spanish locals to Tourists (visitors from other parts of Spain counts as locals). As I imagine in Munich for Octoberfest and here, I’m picturing a high proportion of Aussies and Kiwis?

Oh my goodness, that mask/wine bong of epicness is either the coolest or most unsettling thing I have seen in weeks!

That gas mask contraption looks like my worst nightmare! But you ladies look adorable in your outfits. And I love that the first picture captures the red and white theme thanks to the man’s shirt and his flowers.

Oh, I’ve heard of a beer funnel, but never seen anything drunk from a gas mask! That’s hilarious. I’m going to need you to find out who that delicious-looking man is watching the gas mask guy. He’s got the blue sunglasses on his head. :-)
