Jamacia-01

There was a time I had no real preference between the Caribbean or the Pacific, but since I’ve lived pretty much on the Caribbean coast for the better part of a year, the Caribbean is, by far, my kind of coastline.

I am in love with the beaches and blue, hypnotizing waters. Since I’m not a surfer, the calmer waves make the swimmer in me happy.

Which is why I’m stoked to bring you five destinations where you can find adventure; the Caribbean is full of it.

Negril, Jamaica

Negril is chilled out town in western Jamaica. There are miles of uninterrupted white sand beaches on shallow bays with calm waters. For some adventure, go to the Negril cliffs. It’s a rugged and breathtaking part of the Negril coastline. Sit down for a meal and some drinks at Rick’s Café and watch the cliff divers — they put on quite a show. And if you feel brave yourself, try a dive; it will be one of the most thrilling jumps of your life!

Montego Bay, Jamaica

Montego Bay is the capital of St. James Parish on the north coast of the country, which serves as a major cruise ship port. However, there are lots of adventurous activities to do. Sign up for an ATV all-terrain adventure. Imagine splashing through puddles, speeding past citrus plantations, roaring up and down hills, and twisting along dirt trails.

Nassau, Bahamas

The Bahamas’ capital city of Nassau sits on a hill and is also a popular cruise ship stop. But if you really want to see the flavor of Nassau and its nature, do a snorkelling adventure on Blue Lagoon Island. If doing a tour, follow the tour leader into the water and enjoy interacting with the dolphins. Get ready to adapt to these gentle creatures who swim by and give you a pet, kiss, hug, or even a dance. This will be an experience you’ll always remember!

Paradise Island, Bahamas

Just off the coast of Nassau is Paradise Island, known for a sprawling resort called Atlantis. There’s something for every member of your family at this resort. Explore the extensive water park rides, pools, beaches, restaurants, walk-in aquarium, and casinos. If that isn’t enough excitement for you, there’s a few golf courses you can book to enjoy an afternoon game.

Simpson Bay, Netherlands-Antilles

Simpson Bay is a gorgeous area that makes up St. Maarten. The main activity to do here is scuba diving. Go with Ocean Explorer’s Dive Center. Their knowledgeable and experienced staff will make you feel confident during descent, and the sea life is spectacular. Divers have reported spotting large schools of fish, numerous sea turtles, sharks, and large lobster that allow you to approach closely.

I hope this adventure list inspires you to consider the Caribbean for your next trip. Meanwhile, I’ll stay here and put my feet up at the beach in Playa del Carmen.

I’m currently writing for Hipmunk and would love for you  to check out some of the other Hipmunk content that I’ve written!
