I’m never sure what response certain articles will garner. Initially, I was disheartened to discover only a sprinkle of comments for the Currency book giveaway.
No, I wasn’t hawking a travel memoir or ebook that every other blogger is posting about at the moment. I do both. What is that exactly?
See, I gravitate towards new talent, or old talent which hasn’t been afforded a sliver of light. All along, I thought my audience would follow, but alas – one can never predict.
Just when I was stumbling out an apology to Zoe Zolbrod for the contest failure, she sharply pointed out, “Don’t feel bad. I was so happy to have the book appear on your great blog.”
If a reader/contributor walks away satisfied who am I to court guilt? So, thanks to those who retweeted the original post and for the record – I won’t change. Unearthed talent will always have a place at Nomadic Chick, along with Random House veterans.
The winners of the Currency book contest:
1. Gray Cargill – for being a fan of Zoe’s work. And, just cause.
2. JoAnna Haugen – for sharing her tale of a hard lesson learned in Peru. I had no clue such a concept as “unbroken money’ existed.
3. VagaBen – his harrowing tale of apartment rentals gone haywire in Argentina had me on the edge of my computer chair. Wow. Really? Kudos to backpackers for saving the day!
4. Ayngelina – honorable mention. Getting robbed in Vietnam and observing a shift in financial dynamic between her then boyfriend must have been humbling. She’s been traveling for over a month now and can’t receive the book. There’s always next time.
To all the contestants, thanks for participating and happy reading!

@ayngelina – Hmmm.. I know Zoe wanted to give you a book. Maybe DM me the address where you’ll be staying and we’ll try to get it to you!
@Shannon OD – Thank s so much for your heartfelt comment. It means a lot. :)
Missed it by a hair, shucks! Although I do have people coming to visit so don’t count me out for prizes, English books can be hard to find in Central America!
Keep up the good work, I’m sure the next contest will have many more participants.
I definitely don’t think you should change, I actually missed this first post somewhere along the line, but even so, as you grow so will your readers and the ones that align with your views will follow you down any rabbit hole you take us down…and the others, well, they’ll still follow, just maybe not all the way down the rabbit hole. :-) I think you’re doing a great job and love that you gave attention to a new talent :-)
@Shawn – Oh yes, blogging about my travels for sure! Just haven’t started yet. Don’t worry, an update post is on the way.
Just curious if you were going to blog about your travels, are you in Victoria or have you moved on?
