@Daryl Fritz – Me too! As soon as I took it, knew it was a gooder. A picture testament to urban decay – muhahaha!
I love the Toronto subway picture. It looks grungy and apocalyptic, in a good way.
@Mary Jane – Thanks! It was harrd going through photos and deciding on 5 per city. Whoo. :)
@naradb – Not crazy at all! You gotta do what works, right? It’s always good to have 2 perspectives, IMO.
@Vagabond Roots – Wow, lady! Must have been THIS close to your place. I had no idea you lived around Kensington. I loved it there, btw. And where are you?? How are you?
I’m based in Montreal and Nara is from TO!
=D omg, the community car (the crazy plant one) in Kensington market was on the same street as my last apartment in Toronto! Had you photographed the car from the front I might have seen my old place.
If I remember right it was decorated at the same time as another car that was signed as a big petition by a bunch of people, then pushed to city hall (at morning rush hour) in a protest to get ‘more parks and less parking’ in Toronto. I remember signing the petition car, and can’t be 100% sure the community car was decorated then but I seem to remember that’s how it started.
Interesting note, the community car gets taken away during the winter so the snowplows get through and arrives back home in the spring. I’ve had quite a few picnics on the grassy area where the hood used to be. :)
It’s a great neighborhood, I hope you got a chance to wander around it a bit :)
@Nomadic Chick – BOTH. crazy I know. But it seems to work pretty well. Both cities are great and each give a totally different vibe towards traveling at which we love about.
@naradb – Cool. Two cities I enjoyed. Are you guys based in one or the other? :)
This is so funny, because Tanya and I – the creators of Off Track Backpacking are from Toronto and Montreal. These Pictures are great.
NICE POST!!!
Oh, the plant car caught my eyes. I love it, and good job on the photos, you’ve got the best spots :) Keep working on it.
The Basilica photo is amazing !
Aren’t these row houses pretty? I am the luckiest girl in the world to live in one of them.
ps i don’t like them as much in the winter when i have to shove the snow off them and thus having a near-death experience everytime.
uh! That plant car is incredible, I want it.
Also, that basilica is gorgeous on so many levels. It fills me with far too many hopelessly romantic notions.
@Gray – I was walking in Kensington Market with Carol (a travel writer) and saw it parked on the side of the road, begging for me to capture it. :)
@Nick Laborde – You know, I never found out!
@Andi – Aw thanks! I feel like a baby photographer all the time. Try, and try again!
I love that crazy plant car! How did you find that? Great shot of Notre Dame, too.
Love the pics. I wonder what the story is behind the crazy plant car?
Gives a whole new meaning to fast food.
Great pics darling!
@Eric – Hopefully you make it! Canada is such a diverse country, every corner is an amazing discovery!
@ayngelina – I wonder how you’ll view home once the conquering woman returns!
@Alouise – I love the plant car, too. Couldn’t resist taking a photo!
That is a really interesting looking museum. I want to visit Canada more and more after working with several Canadians here in SK.
Great photos, the Toronto ones make me a bit homesick – I love the plant car.
I love the picture inside Notre Dame Basillica, it’s stunning. This just make me want to hop on the next plane to Montreal. And the crazy plant car is awesome, on the news I saw something about someone from Vancouver doing that too. Seems to be a better option that rusting in a junkyard.
